The Municipal Council of Arcos de Valdevez is expanding the fiber-optic network throughout the municipality.

The digital highway will reach the village of Soajo and other areas of the municipality, the local authority announced. In a statement, the municipal executive reported that the award for the extension of the network from the municipal headquarters to the village of Soajo was recently approved and granted to Dstelecom, S.A., for an amount of €60,000 plus VAT, for the expansion of the fiber-optic network.

The installation of a POP (Point of Presence)—an essential infrastructure that will enable fiber expansion over long optical distances—was also approved. This POP will be located near the former primary school in Grade.

According to the municipality, by promoting the expansion of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) coverage across the municipality, it is “creating the conditions for people to access advanced digital communications, such as 1 Gbps internet connections, digital television, and an expanded wireless internet (Wi-Fi) network.”

The Municipal Council of Arcos de Valdevez also adds that it is preparing a new procedure to extend fiber-optic connectivity to other areas of the municipality.

“Digital accessibility is nowadays essential for any type of activity, whether recreational or professional. These are therefore investments made with the future in mind and aimed at improving the quality of life of the population,” states the executive led by João Esteves.
