In 2008, the dst group launched the development of the operator-of-operators concept in Portugal in a fully innovative way. Today, dstelecom is the leading open-access fiber-optic network operator in Portugal. Since then, more than €150 million have been invested in infrastructure in this area.
Subsequently, a partnership was established with Cube Infrastructure Fund II (“Cube”), continuing the Investment Program that gave shape to the second phase of development of its broadband network. This expansion has continued to integrate the most advanced technologies to support shared access by all telecommunications operators in the country, most of which are already using the existing network.
With the agreement now reached with Vodafone and NOS, dstelecom will implement the third phase of development of its broadband network, focused on areas with lower population density. This network will continue to be operated in a transparent and open manner, accessible to all operators that share the same principles of sustainability and cooperation.
José Teixeira, Chairman of the dst group, highlights the importance of this agreement:
“We will continue, without sparing any effort, to fulfill the mission we began ten years ago: to eliminate geographical barriers and allow all Portuguese citizens to interact with the new digital world through the most modern communications networks. This is yet another decisive step in this project to develop open and shared communications networks, operated independently and transparently.”
