We spoke with Catarina Lourenço, President of the Parish Council of Cambeses, in the municipality of Monção, who highlighted not only the benefits of fiber-optic connectivity but also the free internet project implemented for the local population.
“Fiber optics are now part of our homes and have become the vehicle of information that takes us where cars cannot go, boats cannot reach, trains are limited, and airplanes are constrained,” said the local official.
For her, fast content sharing with easy, intuitive, and secure access is especially important in more remote areas.
“With fiber-optic services, we have a more informed community, better prepared for new technologies, closer to public services, and more satisfied. Today, we can say that fiber optics are part of our community.”
The Cambeses Parish Council considers fiber optics a priority driver in its relationship with the community.
“We want an increasingly digital parish, more open to the world, with fast, secure, and efficient services,” she added.
Catarina Lourenço also spoke about the free internet project implemented in the parish:
“We are equipping the parish with a speed upgrade at no cost to users—1,000/200 Mbps. This investment more than doubles the existing capacity and will allow residents to access online content more consistently and without communication interruptions.”
For the parish president, fiber-optic networks are increasingly a fundamental service for balanced communication within communities.
“Much like the public water supply and the electricity grid, which in my view should evolve toward being a largely free service.”
In closing, Catarina Lourenço highlighted the role of dstelecom in this process:
“Communication services are only possible through strong partnerships like the one we established with dstelecom, which made us pioneers in the fiber network distribution model in our municipality.”
