dstelecom leads NETEDGE, a two million euro research and technological development (R&D) project, which is being carried out in partnership with the University of Minho, the Telecommunications Institute, and the companies Bystel FS, Fapajal, and Bee Engineering S.A.

NETEDGE focuses on Edge Computing for fibre optic network users and aims to research and develop cutting-edge technologies in the field of distributed computing. The main objective of the research is to bring computing and data storage closer to where they are needed in order to improve response times and save bandwidth.

Edge Computing, in addition to enhancing 5G technology, will be vital to meeting the demanding requirements of applications that require ultra-low latency and high bandwidth.

In order to take stock of the project, the entities involved met in person on 22 March at the Telecommunications Institute, based on the campus of the University of Aveiro.

The main purpose of this working meeting was to share the main results achieved by each entity and to define the main strategies and new actions to be taken for the project to move forward.
