School is once again entering Portuguese homes through a screen, as education shifts to remote learning. Parents are once more reinventing themselves to ensure their children can attend classes at a distance.
This new reality also reinforces one of parents’ biggest challenges: ensuring children’s safety in the virtual world. Inappropriate websites and excessive screen time are among the main risk factors.
Aware of this challenge, we have put together some tips to help create a safer online environment for your child.
Create a user account for your child (the administrator role should always be assigned to an adult).
Set limits on the amount of time your child can access the Internet.
Restrict the types of websites your child can visit.
Monitor the browsing history of your child’s account.
Keep antivirus software up to date.
Raise awareness among children:
“Protect your password! This information is personal and should never be shared with anyone.”
“Keep your personal information safe. Do not share your address, contact details, photos, or the name of the school you attend with anyone.”
“Only talk to people you know.”
