By 2024, optical fiber will reach 95% of Guardense homes

The expansion of optical fiber in the municipality of Guarda was presented today at the Museum of Guarda.

By 2024, it is expected that, in the worst case scenario, 97% of the municipality will be covered by optical fiber. In addition, Ricardo Salgado, responsible for dstelecom, specifies that next year, in the country, it is intended to take the service to 900 thousand homes.

The pandemic made it clear, especially for mayors, the importance of these services, not only because we realized that we had to be at home, but also because of the migratory movement of young couples who realized that they can work from small towns. Expanding optical fiber helps to fix and attract people.

Ricardo Salgado hopes that in a few years, investments in digital highways will be more important than investments in road highways.

In the session, the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa, shares the idea of the head of dstelecom about the pandemic and clarifies that “the geography of territories is no longer an advantage or disadvantage. It brings security and quality of life, but this can only be taken advantage of if we solve problems that territories have – such as connectivity. And the development of the territory depends on who is here.

The mayor of Guarda, Sérgio Costa, believes that it is essential to invest in communication. It is a contribution to the settlement of people in the cities and villages of the region. People will know they will have more connectivity to be able to provide remote services and perform operations to customers in real time.”

Consumers can check the availability of fiber coverage in their area by going to www.dstelecom.pt/cobertura or by sending an email to euquerofibra@dstelecom.pt with the full address and, ideally, GPS coordinates. Alternatively, you can also talk to your telecommunications operator on 800 910 660.
