dstelecom has just reinforced its network capacity in Arronches, Castelo de Vide, Crato, Marvão and Moura, ensuring that the fibre optic service reaches more than 11,500 families. In the municipality of Avis, the work is expected to be completed by the beginning of December, with a total of around 2,600 homes covered.
According to the wholesale telecommunications operator, after reaching these six municipalities between 2014 and 2015, more than 14,000 families are now able to choose between the main telecommunications operators operating in Portugal, which offer their services to the end consumer via this fibre optic network.
With this reinforcement, dstelecom aims to fill gaps in digital connectivity, especially in inland areas where access to high-speed broadband remains limited. This investment contributes to boosting local economies, creating opportunities for trade and tourism and facilitating access to remote working, health services and distance education.
‘The reinforcement of our fibre optic network in the Alentejo is a positive sign and goes hand in hand with our mission to combat digital inequalities in Portugal. We want to ensure that, regardless of their location, all Portuguese people can enjoy fast, quality internet, thus helping to foster permanence and local development in the interior,’ he adds.
he population can already check the availability of fibre coverage, indicating their address and, ideally, GPS coordinates or a reference point, by emailing euquerofibra@dstelecom.pt or calling 800 910 660.
As the wholesale operator of the largest multi-operator fibre network in Europe, dstelecom assures that it will continue to expand this ‘digital highway’ to more households in the Alentejo and other regions, promoting an inclusive network that is accessible to all the main telecommunications operators in Portugal.
This initiative is part of an ongoing strategy to reach the least served areas of the country, bringing the interior closer to the connectivity standards available in large urban centres.
It should be remembered that dstelecom operates and maintains the first and largest multi-operator fibre optic network in Europe, where the main telecommunications operators operating in Portugal are customers of the network and, through it, make their services available to the end consumer.
Currently, dstelecom's digital motorway reaches 149 municipalities, with a total of almost 1 million homes, essentially in areas where there is a greater digital shortage.
