“With this expansion, around 16,500 families will have access to dstelecom's fiber optic network, guaranteeing access to high-speed internet, comparable to that available in large urban centers,” says the Braga-based operator.
By the end of the first quarter of the year, dstelecom will be expanding its multi-operator fiber optic network in Vila Real and Peso da Régua, which will allow thousands of families in these municipalities to enjoy state-of-the-art telecommunications services.
“With this expansion, around 16,500 families will have access to dstelecom's fiber optic network, guaranteeing access to high-speed internet, comparable to that available in large urban centers,” says the Braga-based operator.
In Vila Real, where dstelecom has been operating since 2022, the expansion will bring the fiber optic network to more than 600 new homes, increasing total coverage in the municipality to 13,000 families.
In this intervention, the fiber network will be extended in the parishes of Abaças and União de Freguesias de Nogueira e Ermida, the latter being an absolute novelty, as it will have fiber access for the first time.
In Peso da Régua, this new investment will bring the fiber optic network to 360 new homes in the Galafura and Covelinhas Parish Union, allowing more residents of the municipality to have access to quality internet. In total, 3,500 families in Peso da Régua will now be connected to the operator's fiber optic network.
As well as guaranteeing high-speed internet, “dstelecom's infrastructure allows the inhabitants of Peso da Régua and Vila Real to choose between different telecommunications operators, promoting competition and ensuring better prices and greater diversity of services”.
“Quality connectivity is essential for the development and inclusion of communities, both socially and economically. Our goal is to bring fiber optics to more and more people, and thereby reduce inequalities in internet access. We want to ensure that the inhabitants of Peso da Régua and Vila Real have the same digital opportunities as any other citizen in the country,” explains Ricardo Salgado, CEO of dstelecom.
The Braga-based operator is responsible for the largest multi-operator fiber optic network in Europe, which currently serves 149 municipalities and almost a million homes, especially in areas with the greatest digital deprivation.
“This project in Vila Real and Peso da Régua reaffirms the company's commitment to an inclusive digital future, in which all regions of the country, regardless of their location, have access to the same opportunities for digital development. Its implementation has relied on the collaboration of the municipalities, whose involvement and support have been essential in bringing quality connectivity to local communities,” concludes the company.
