ESG: dstelecom sets decarbonization goals and joins the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

Aware of the current global climate crisis, dstelecom has just joined Science Based Targets, a joint initiative of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) which seeks to help companies set targets for reducing carbon emissions and limiting global temperature rise, based on climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Created in 2015, SBTi already has more than 2,000 associated organizations around the world, concerned with the current situation and committed to ensuring a prosperous future for the next generations, which dstelecom now joins.
Several studies show that, over the last few years, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have increased considerably. Consequently, average global temperatures are estimated to increase by between 3.7°C and 4.8°C, compared to pre-industrial terms, by the end of the century. A value that is far beyond the levels of warming that the international scientific community has considered safe.

As most global GHG emissions are directly or indirectly influenced by the corporate sector, companies have a clear role to play in protecting the climate and ensuring that the transition to a so-called low-carbon economy is smooth and prosperous. And dstelecom wants to be part of this change.

Thus, it undertakes to reduce direct carbon emissions by 46% by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, contributing to the increase in the earth's temperature not exceeding 1.5ºC. In addition, it will encourage its various stakeholders to review their actions and act in a more conscious and sustainable way.

According to SBTi, taking action now will ensure the smoothest possible transition to a low-carbon economy while preserving ecological stability. Additionally, the fight against climate change is fundamental for the fulfillment of the UN Agenda 2030, an action plan centered on people, on the planet, on prosperity, on peace and on partnerships, which has as its objectives the eradication of poverty and economic development , social and environmental on a global scale.
