Impact of optical fiber in the municipality of Mogadouro

Every day, we strive to bring optical fiber to areas of the country where there is a greater digital need and contribute not only to the retention of the population, but also to the creation of new opportunities for the region.

To understand the impact of our infrastructure in the municipality of Mogadouro, we spoke with António Joaquim Pimentel, President of the City Council.

“Optical fiber fulfills, in the field of information and work, the role played by structural roads, highways and ICs. We are no longer isolated from the development of the coast and the world.”

For the mayor, our digital highway added value to the municipality and complemented the range of added value that is available to those who reside there.

“These are the little things that the territory needs so that people actually come here. Because they already have the living conditions. We are in a territory where young couples do not pay for childcare or daycare, where citizens have access to various services free of charge and where there is support for investment and the creation of new jobs. Therefore, the only thing missing was a technological infrastructure that would allow us to have the same possibility of accessing the digital world as the municipalities on the Coast”.

In terms of work, it had a very noticeable impact, enabling teleworking for countless people from Mogadouro and boosting the creation of a coworking space, which is expected to attract more investment and qualified labor to Mogadouro.

“Optical fiber allow citizens to work faster and more efficiently. And today, we know well how important this is for territorial development.”

Younger people also take advantage of this data highway, which has enabled the digitalization of teaching programs and brought additional knowledge. The elderly, in turn, have access to a telecare program, which allows the competent authorities to interact with them and provide them with the care they need.

“Today, communications are fundamental throughout the lives of citizens and, to that extent, the fiber optic network is a fundamental infrastructure for us, an infrastructure that works and is perfectly suited to the territory”, adds António Joaquim Pimentel.
