In an era of digitalization, in which companies and entrepreneurs seek to consolidate their presence in the digital world, artisans have also been adapting to this new reality and taking advantage of it.
To understand the impact of our optical fiber network on the Pottery sector, we spoke with Manuel Tapada. Together with his father, Alberto, he founded the Come Na 2 Project and the Interpretative Center - As Idades da Terra, in Cumieira, in Santa Marta de Penaguião, which promise to provide a journey through time and perpetuate traditions.
“Through the internet I can stay connected from Cumieira to the whole world”, he tells us.
When asked about the importance of our infrastructure for your business, he did not hesitate to state that the internet is an essential factor in reaching an increasingly wider audience.
“Through our social networks, we were able to reach other types of markets that would have been impossible without the internet. I can say that around 90% of all our business volume comes to us via the internet, either through publications we make on social networks, through recommendations from other customers, or through platforms where we are located”.
Furthermore, since the vast majority of your customers live abroad, the possibility of sending and receiving emails, making video calls or communicating through social media is a crucial factor.
“We can easily see that without the internet it was impossible for them to reach us and for us to be able to communicate with them. Either through email or through direct contact, through Facebook or Instagram, the internet is always a fundamental factor, whether in fundraising or in designing the tour itself. And then it’s in the recommendation that the customer makes and that leads to more people reaching out to us,” he says.
Graduated in Communication Sciences, Pottery was not a family legacy for Manuel, but rather a challenge that, together with his father, he embraced about 8 years ago. Today, he works on something that he is passionate about: modeling clay, presenting the museum and organizing private tours, where gastronomy and viticulture also have special emphasis.
“In 2015, we created a family business - at that time just for ceramic production. However, the idea evolved. My profession, at the moment, has several aspects: the pottery aspect, where I produce ceramic tableware - either using a wheel or using molds -, we also do other types of services here at Come Na 2 with a part presentation of the museum, where I usually have the help of my father. But, at the moment, my main focus is on private tours”, he concludes.
Although analogue, this cultural preservation work therefore requires a large digital component.
